Karl Blossfeldt, German photographer (1865 - 1932). Chestnut twigs.
Blossfeldt is best known for his close-up photographs of plants. His collected works from 3 decades were published 1928 (The Original Art, Urformen der Kunst).
Plants take on a nearly architectural perspective.
Blossfeldt´s works are undated. The preface of his book (1928) was written by a proponent of the "New Objectivity" (Neue Sachlichkeit) Style and relates Blossfeldt to this art scene.
Max Ernst thought some of the works to be surrealistic.
Friends of Art Nouveau also could find many examples that could be related to this style. (Blossfeldt started macro-shot photography in the 1890s.)
